The day trip slowly came to an end. The Empire State Building is within walking distance of Times Square. To see the sunset at 7, they found a random family Chinese restaurant for dinner. Then, the tour guide took them to the Empire State Building without any stops along the way.
New York City is indeed a multi-ethnic and diverse city. When she set foot on the bustling Times Square, she sees people of different colors speaking different languages. Some are in a hurry, some tired, some pleasant, some who are in their twenties and even some white-haired elders.
Lu Wei Xi silently watches them, suddenly there was a little loneliness at the bottom of my heart.
You see, there are so many people in this city, so many roads, so many street lights, but there is no one who can take you home.
Before she came, she promised Xia Nuan that she will take care of herself while she is having fun and won’t get homesick. But when you cross the ocean alone, you will understand the weight of the word motherland.
It’s near the end of April so it is reasonable to say that it is not tourist season. However, tourists still crowded below the Empire State Building.
Merely lining up took two hours. While Lu Wei Xi was chatting with Yu Mo Ran, she saw the view from the window slip from day to evening.
Just when Lu Wei Xi felt her calf ache from standing, she was able to with great difficulty, squeeze into the elevator with the other tourists.
When the elevator “ding” and the elevator door open, Lu Wei Xi followed the crowd and walked out. The excitement in her heart could not be suppressed and began to spread throughout her body.
Empire State Building, 102nd floor.
She has finally arrived.
When Lu Wei Xi pushed open the door of the inner room to enter the outer layer of the top floor, she saw the beautiful setting sun in the distant horizon hidden behind a layer of clouds.
The gust of wind blew past her long hair. Lu Wei Xi stood still as she looks at the sunset in the distance. When she turned around, she didn’t know where Yu Mo Ran had dragged the tour guide off to but she doesn’t really care. She took a knitted shawl out of her bag and wrapped it around her shoulders as she looked around.
The sun finally set behind the horizon and the night finally replaced the day. The roof is very big. She wrapped the shawl around her chest and stroll through the bustling crowd. She walked to the front of the crowd and stopped as she looks at the night view.
She looks at the panoramic view of New York City from the 102nd floor of the Empire State Building. The Hudson River under the night sky was gentle and tranquil. The Statue of Liberty is still noble and elegant, and the neon lights of Times Square still shines brightly as if it will never tire out.
The night view is very beautiful. The night sky is full of stars shining brightly light a diamond. She is once again reminded of his eyes, bright, reticent and gentle.
How should she say it–––There are thousands of strange faces in front of me, but the moment I close my eyes, there is only you.
In the crowd, people were speaking all different kinds of languages…..English, Chinese, Korean, German... as well as many other languages that Lu Wei Xi couldn’t make out. It’s true what Cheng Si Ran said to her the night before she came, New York City is really the city that never sleeps.
She stood quietly in the crowd overlooking the night scenes of New York. At this time, the phone rang. She pulled out it out of her pocket and brought it up to her ear. Lu Wei Xi hasn’t said anything when she heard the other party’s hurried tone, “Wei Xi, where are you? Can you come over and help me take some photos? The tour guide takes very horrible pictures and I can’t take it anymore. I’m on the south side, can you come over soon?
“Ah...okay. I’ll come over now.” Lu Wei Xi hung up the call. She silently sighed in her heart and turned to walk over.
It’s around 8 in the evening which is the busiest time on the top floor of the Empire State Building. The noisy atmosphere filled her ear. The space under her feet feels stuffed and people are pushing on all sides of her so it was hard for her to walk through the crowd.
People closely surrounded her and suddenly she couldn’t breathe. Lu Wei Xi could only toughen up and open her eyes as she pushes through the gap between the crowd. While she was walking, she wasn’t paying attention when she twisted her foot and lost her balance. Before she could fully react, she fell forward. However, in the next second, she crashed into a familiar embrace.
This embrace is not warm, his body temperature was even fainter but she couldn't help but want to get closer.
The man reached out and, unlike the time in the hospital when he pushed her away, he instead tightened his hold as he embraces her.
People come and go to the Empire State Building. In this city that never sleeps, among thousands of people, he reached out and held her in his arms without hesitation.
In the noisy crowd, he gently buried his head on her shoulder. His dull voice sounds tired but it also carried some joy.
“Long time no see.”
The moment Jian Chi’s voice rang in her ears, Lu Wei Xi was so shocked she almost couldn’t breathe. Her brain couldn’t react but when his lips moved, her eyes unconsciously turned red.
Clearly, nothing has happened but she thinks that she has been waiting too long for this moment.
She stiffly looked up. The man who has not seen him for months is wearing a dark blue hooded sweater. His hair is dark and his eyes are clean. He looked down at her. The lips are slightly pulled into a gentle arc but he still had the same cold and indifferent appearance from her memory.
“Jian Chi….I really miss you.”
She unconsciously blurted out this sentence and her tears can’t stop falling more and more. After a long time, Lu Wei Xi sniffed her nose and finally notice that the person in front of her is real. Finally, she doesn’t have to worry and think about why he gave her so much special treatment and don’t need to tell her that everything is all just her wishful thinking.
Because at this moment, after crossing the ocean to another country, he is standing in front of her eyes on the top floor of the Empire State Building.
Her tears began to fall even more. Jian Chi slightly frowned and reached out to wipe away her years with his cold fingertips.
He spoke, his voice light, clean and cold as if blurring the boundless dark night.
“I know. I’m sorry.”
Sorry for making you wait so long. Sorry for making you restless.”

A long time ago, when Lu Wei Xi was scrolling through Weibo, she once saw a blogger ask why the earth is round. And in the comment, someone replied it is the only way to unite separated people.
It turned out that standing on the very top of the Empire State Building, she can really meet him.
Sigh... Everything was building upto this. Thank you for the chapter.
ReplyDeleteAaaah... finally.. did he really spotted her already when weixi thought he is there when she just entering the building. Or he rushed there because weixi already put the status in her weibo.
ReplyDeleteThat was so cold yet romantic
ReplyDeleteHow I wish I can go to the Empire State Building now...maybe I’ll run into my very own Jian Chi? 🤷🏻♀️😂😂
