Three Combs: Chapter 49.1

[Previous][Table of Contents][Next]

That evening, they returned to the villa.

Jiang Tiao washed up, climbed onto the bed, and opened the phone that had been on airplane mode the entire day.

Since last night, she knew she would be bombarded with news.

Sure enough, when she opened the application, it revealed a bunch of messages from former colleagues and friends.

Sun Qing is especially…..

She sent at least 30 messages asking Jiang Tiao about the situation.

It’s normal for colleagues to understand and make the connection so they were able to guess it is her.

Just her old classmates and friends wanted some clarifications after seeing the video.

Jiang Tiao had a headache. Thinking about it, she only sent Sun Qing a few words.

I will slowly explain it to you on the phone later.

She still has a top priority.

After a while, Fu Ting Chuan came out of the bathroom. His hair is still wet with droplets dripping down his neck and disappearing into the black bathrobe.

He picked up the towel on the rack next to him and wiped his hair as he looked at Jiang Tiao sitting on the bed with a lost expression.

Fu Ting Chuan bent over and took the hairdryer from the cupboard while he asked, “What’s wrong?”

Jiang Tiao looked up, “I was thinking about whether I should call my parents.”

“You haven’t told your parents about us?”

“I haven’t thought about….how to say it.”

Fu Ting Chuan wiped his hair one last and threw aside the towel before going to the bed. He bowed down and lifted Jiang Tiao’s chin so she is looking into his eyes, “Still haven’t told your parents...does that mean you don’t want to take responsibility for me?”

Jiang Tiao pushed away his hand and gave him a cold stare, “Senseless.”

Fu Ting Chuan sat down on the bed. He naturally crossed his legs, the contours of his legs showing throw the bathrobe, “Why didn’t you tell your parents?”

Jiang Tiao dispiritedly said, “I wanted to…..but I haven’t talked to them on the phone in a while.”

–––Their phone calls are usually tense and don’t know if they will accept it.

“Call them, you have to tell them.”

After the college entrance exam incident, Jiang Tiao saw her parents in a new light. For many years. She had been working away and only come back dor the Lunar New Year.

Since then, her relationship with her parents has been strained with less communication.

But…..at any rate, they are still her biological parents…..

Jiang Tiao sighed and called her mom.

Fu Ting Chuan sat on the sidelines and watched her.

After a few rings, the call connected.

Jiang Tiao went straight to the point, “Hello, Mom.”

The voice on the other side was filled with surprise, “Tiao Tiao?” It seemed like she didn’t expect a call from her daughter at this time.

“Tomorrow is the new year. I wish you and Dad a happy new year.” She switched to her native dialect which emerged from her awkward tone, “What are you doing?”

“Watching the New Year’s Eve program at home. Happy New Year too. How is it over there?”

“It’s good. How’s dad?”

“We’re quite well.” Her mother answered and sighed, “I was browsing through the TV yesterday and saw on an entertainment program that the person you liked, called Fu something…”

Jiang Tiao’s heart tightened. Do her parents already know?

Her mother continued, “Fu Ting Chuan right? He has a girlfriend, moreover, she is a makeup artist? At that time I wondered whether you would be sad. You’ve liked him since your third year in middle school….”

When Jiang Tiao heard this, her nose started to sour.

It turns out her mother still remembers what she likes in her childhood.

But….the problem is, how should she tell her mom…..

That makeup artist is her?

Jiang Tiao scrunched her brows and don’t know where to start.

When the person on the other side noticed she wasn’t speaking, she asked, “Tiao Tiao, did mom say something to make you unhappy? Mom wasn’t intentional, I know you were a fan…..”

“Mom.” Jiang Tiao interrupted.

Mother Jiang, “En.”

Despite her spurt of energy earlier, what she said next was like she is forced out a confession,, “Actually, that makeup artist….is me…”

……

Jiang Tiao hung up the phone. For some reason, she told her mom on the call in great detail about how she and Fu Ting Chuan met, fell in love, and then, without telling them in advance, went to meet his parents…..

During this time, it seems that her mom wasn’t able to process everything quickly and was quiet for the most part.

In the end, she said, “I will talk about this with your dad. Work must be tiring so you should rest early….”

Then she hung up.

Fu Ting Chuan had been listening beside her. He couldn’t tell which Suzhou dialect it was. It is heavily accented and is unlike the Beijing dialect where it is almost no different from Mandarin. Listening to it, he only understood 30%.

He had to ask Jiang Tiao, “What did you say to your mother? You talked for so long.”

Jiang Tiao smiled and smashed his cheeks together, “You, guess, ah~”

Fu Ting Chuan frowned and rubbed her cheek, “This girl, when did you become so low. In the future, I can’t let you spend time with Xu Che.”

Jiang Tiao took his wrist and moved it away from her face, “What to do, you don’t understand what I am saying. Who told you to marry a Suzhou girl.”

Fu Ting Chuan, “Fine, I’ll learn the Suzhou dialect tomorrow.”

Jiang Tiao, “You learn it then~”

Fu Ting Chuan glanced at her. Taking advantage of the fact that she is off guard, he grabbed her hands and pressed her down on the bed.

“Hey–––” Jiang Tiao struggled to no avail, “Let go––this is unfair.”

“How is it unfair?”

“Women don’t have the same strength as men. You are being a bully.”

Fu Ting Chuan raised his lips into a smile and wiggled his brows, “Confess to me in Suzhou dialect, then I’ll let go.”

“No.” Jiang Tiao looked away.

“Then I won’t let go.”

Aiya, you are the best, let me go…” Jiang Tiao changed to the coquettish tactic.

“Say a phrase, and I’ll let go.”

Jiang Tiao doesn’t want to banter with him anymore, “Then what do you want to hear/”

Fu Ting Chuan decisively requested, “I like you.”

“Oh,” Jiang Tiap pursed her lips, “nei zha zhong sang.”

Fu Ting Chuan narrowed his eyes, “It means I like you?”

“Yes. Why would I lie to you?” Jiang Tiao candidly responded.

“Really?”

“Really.”

Fu Ting Chuan smiled and gave her a deep kiss, leaving Jiang Tiao flushed and short of breath as she weakly lay down.

“What are you doing.” Jiang Tiao was able to muster out.

Fu Ting Chuan kneads her shoulder, “Putting your confession to practice.”

“You….” Jiang Tiao didn’t know what to say.

“What, you said I am a beast so, of course, I must live up to it.”

“You are a zhong sang.” Jiang Tiao was so irritated that her dialect came out at the end.

Fu Ting Chuan couldn’t help but stroke her annoyed face and gently said, “wu hu xi nai...”

Jiang Tiao’s face reddened as it reached the tip of her ears.

What Fu Ting Chuan said…..is actually the real way of saying “I like you” in Suzhou dialect….

His voice was low and deep, mixed with a hint of warmth.

Her young heart is about to burst….>///<
