Tonight the moon is hidden away behind the clouds. The May evening breeze was strong as it blew through the night. Zheng Weiqian stood on the balcony of his room with a glass of wine in hand. His dark and lonely mood prevalent in the gloomy night.
He knew that some time ago his parents went to Beijing to see Fang Yan. They said that she has recovered very well and will be able to discharge from the hospital in a few days. It is good that things turned out this way, nothing else matters. Taking a sip of his wine, Zheng Weiqian turned and went back inside his room. He felt that this night is long so he wants to drink a little so that he can sleep well.
Just as Zheng Weiqian was about to fall asleep, a knock came from the door. The person who came in is Zheng Xinya.
Zheng Weiqian was surprised. He doesn’t know why she would come here so late, “Xiaoya?”
“I saw that your lights were still on so I wanted to talk to you.” Zheng Xinya smiled.
Zheng Weiqian smiles dotingly, “Come in.” It’s rare for his sister to come to him to chat.
When she entered, Zheng Xinya spotted the glass and wine bottle on the table. She wrinkled her brows, “Are you drinking?”
“En, only a little.” In order to sleep well the past few days, he almost drinks every night. It is a habit that he does not need.
Zheng Xinya sat down in the chair next to him and hesitated, “I….I saw Xuanxuan today.” She carefully observed her brother’s expression as she said this.
“En.” Zheng Weiqian responded, not surprised at all. They are good friends, it is normal that they will meet.
“She said your wedding is scheduled for next month?” This is why she came to talk to him so late at night because she knows that the person he loves is Fang Yan. She also knows about Fang Yan’s relationship with the Lin family as well as the arrangement between Lin Xuanxuan. She knew that her brother wasn’t happy after returning from Beijing so she specifically invited Lin Xuanxuan out today. She originally wanted to persuade her to cancel this childish agreement but instead, she received this explosive news from her. She was so angry that she wanted to sever her relationship with Lin Xuanxuan on the spot.
Zheng Weiqian looked at her before he turned away. He closed his eyes and nodded, “It’s going to happen sooner or later, it’s just a matter of when.” Since the person he is going to marry isn’t “her,” it doesn’t matter to him.
He still remembered that day when Lin Xuanxuan came to his office and asked him when is he planning on marrying her.
“When do you plan on marrying me? Or could it be that you planned on discarding me after you’re done using me.” Lin Xuanxuan is wearing a red silk dress with big ruffles on her shoulders. She elegantly sat on the black leather sofa looking charming and sexy.
“I will marry you.” Zheng Weiqian didn’t look up from the report in his hand as he continues to write.
“Ever since you came back from Beijing, you didn’t come looking for me. I thought you already forgot about it.” Lin Xuanxuan drawled.
Zheng Weiqian still didn’t look up and simply said, “Because I was gone a while ago, the work had been piling up so I had been busy during this time.” It was an excuse to not see her during this time.
“The reason I came today is to discuss our marriage.” Lin Xuanxuan wasn’t angry with his attitude. Of course, she knows that it is an excuse to avoid her. It has been two months since he came back from Beijing so, with his work ethic, he should’ve finished dealing with those things.
This time Zheng Weiqian put down his pen and wordlessly looked up at her.
Lin Xuanxuan looked back at him without any fear, “Don’t forget about our agreement. I have the right to ask you about this.” Today she came to talk to him about this problem.
“When do you want to do it?” Zheng Weiqian indifferently spoke up. Maybe it’s time for him to talk about their marriage clearly. He is an honest and trustworthy businessman so this will come sooner or later.
“Huh?” Lin Xuanxuan was surprised by his sudden change. She thought that he would continue to be silent or reject it.
“When do you want to get married? I will do my best to cooperate.” Discussing a marriage should be a happy and momentous occasion but there is no trace of sweetness or joy in him. He is just treating it as a business transaction.
“You…” His cooperation caught Lin Xuanxuan off guard. It took a while for her to regain her voice, “Then….then let’s set the date next month….when the time comes, I will inform the media. I want a big and grand wedding.” This is her request. She wants everyone to know that she is marrying this man. Of course, she also wants “her” to see as well, hence her request.
“Alright. If that’s all, please get out, I still have a job to do.” Zheng Weiqian nodded and requested.
“You….you agreed?” He didn’t even have any objections. Shouldn’t he object? Does he not know her motive for having a grand wedding?
“Isn’t this what you want? Is there something wrong with that or is this not what you want?” Her reaction made Zheng Weiqian suspicious.
“Of….of course this is what I want. Then the wedding will be set for next month. I will inform the press about it and find a wedding planner.” Lin Xuanxuan reluctantly said.
“Whatever you want, I don’t care. Just send the bill to my house, I’ll pay for it.” Zheng Weiqian coldly responded.
“You….” Lin Xuanxuan was somewhat angered by his words. They are clearly getting married next month but he is already alienating himself from her. “Do you have to be so precise as to draw the line between us?”
“Marrying you is merely a transaction. I would like to draw the line between us.” He blinked and lightly replied.
“You….” She already knew the nature of this marriage but hearing him say this makes her feel uncomfortable. She coldly threw out a “whatever” and walked out of the room.
And just like that, the wedding was scheduled for next month. He didn’t talk about it with his family because he didn’t put much value into it.
“Lin Xuanxuan is too much. She clearly knows that you don’t love her. What’s more, Fang Yan is her sister, how can she….” Zheng Xinya is simply crying out injustice for her brother.
Zheng Xinya’s eyes shifted as if she thought of something, “Brother, you only had a verbal agreement. There was no contract or anything of the sort. If you straighten this out with her Lin Xuanxuan won’t do this and this matter will slowly fade away.”
“It is a fact that she saved Fang Yan. There is no casual matter. I am only trading my marriage with her.” Besides, if he were to take it back, Fang Yan would feel like she owes the Lin family and he doesn’t want her to feel this way.
“But–––” Zheng Xinya’s next words were interrupted by him.
“All right. It’s getting late, go back and sleep.” Zheng Weiqian interrupted and pushed her out the door.
Seeing him like this, Zheng Xinya could only swallow back what she was about to say.
After he sent Zheng Xinya away, Zheng Weiqian returned to his room and stared at the bottle of wine on the table. He poured himself another glass of wine and walked to the balcony.
