A week later, Fang Yan was transferred to the general ward. After a period of observation, the doctor concluded that the bone marrow transplant was a success and there are no signs of rejection. Then, under the doctor’s suggestion, Fang Yan began to receive Chinese medicine treatment.
After Zheng Weiqian confirmed that Fang Yan’s surgery was a success, he returned to Shanghai. After that, Fang Yan never saw him again. However, Zheng Weiqian’s parents visited her several times. Under mutual understanding, they did not mention Zheng Weiqian nor did Fang Yan ask about him. Yu Weiya took some time off work to accompany her for a week. She would talk about everything from gossip to jokes but never mentioned Zheng Weiqian. The people around her never mentioned him around her since the day he left as if afraid that it would open her wound.
She knows what they are all thinking. During the day, she would force herself to smile at them but during the night, where no one can see, she would sneak in some tears as she thought about him.
Only after did Old Madame Fang found out about it. Although she knew that they didn’t tell her because they were afraid that she would be worried, she couldn’t help but still give them a few scolding. In the end, Fang Rui had no choice but to promise that she will hold a great-grandson in the coming year that she was able to spare him. However, Fang Rui’s words only made Yu Weiya’s ears turned red as she scolds, “Who said I am going to marry you.” This lead everyone in the room to ridicule Fang Rui for despite being an all-powerful figure in the business world, he is still not able to hold down a woman. Fang Rui didn’t angry, he just looked at Yu Weiya and said to everyone, “Just wait and see.”
Sure enough, the next day, Yu Weiya came back wearing a dazzling diamond ring on her finger. It is so bright it is almost blinding. Fang Yan, being all nosy, asked Yu Weiya what Fang Rui did to make her say yes so easily. Yu Weiya’s entire face turned red and didn’t say anything for a long time. Bai Yun couldn’t help but say that last night when she woke up in the middle to get a drink of water, she heard some strange sound coming from their door. When they heard this, everyone turned to look at the couple with a knowing smile on their faces. They all know that these two must’ve done something good last night. Blushing, Yu Weiya hid in Fang Rui’s arms and didn’t dare to stick her head out. Fang Yan Seeing them like this, Fang Yan genuinely smiled, sincerely happy for them.
Lin Zhenyang and Old Madame Lin wanted to see her but was rejected by Fang Yan. They could not help but leave Beijing with a heavy heart. They knew of the agreement between Zheng Weiqian and Lin Xuanxuan, but since it has come to this point, they could not change anything. Faced with these series events, Old Madame Lin’s body and mind obviously could not handle it. After returning to Shanghai, it didn’t take long for her to be admitted to the hospital.
Two months later, Fang Yan was discharged from the hospital. She returned to the Fang family mansion where Bai Yun is taking care of her and brewing tonics to help her recover.
Looking around her colorful bedroom, Fang Yan realized that she had been staring at the monotonous white rooms in the hospital for three months. Three months ago, she thought that she would never come back, but look at her now.
Fang Yan sat down on the bed and took out the small square box from her pocket. In it lies a diamond ring. It is not a complicated design. It has a simple band that wraps around with a pink diamond connected it in the center. It is simple yet elegant. Fang Yan gently took it out and slowly slid it onto her ring finger while a small smile crept up on her face. She would secretly put on this ring and appreciates its beauty alone. She wondered how it would be he was to put this ring on her hand as she answered, yes, I will marry you. But that chance has passed. He is going to marry another woman, put a beautiful ring on her finger, and walk hand and hand forever.
Big heavy tears fell on her hand. Without realizing it, Fang Yan had started to cry again. These days, her tears have been out of control. She felt that she had cried more during this period and than in her twenty years alive.
She still kept this ring with her. During the day, she would pretend to be fine in front of everyone but when night comes, she would put on this ring which represents their love as she longs for him.
“Yanyan, dinner’s ready.” Without warning, Fang Rui came up to tell her that dinner’s ready and was not prepared to see this crying scene. He had thought that she is strong but he guessed he was wrong. She is just forcing herself to appear strong in front of everyone but instead, her heart is weaker than expected.
Fang Yan was caught off guard by Fang Rui’s sudden appearance. She remembered she the tears on her face and haphazardly wiped it, “Uh….Co-, coming.”
Fang Rui looked at his sister in distress and walked forward to wipe away the tears that she hasn’t wiped clean, “If you want to cry, cry. Don’t hold yourself back.”
“No….no.” Fang Yan lied, “I, I, I’m just really happy to be back. I have no grievances.”
Fang Rui stared at the diamond ring on her hand and then at her face. Fang Yan unconsciously hid her hand behind her back. It is her own little secret that she does not want anyone to find out about.
Fang Yan moved forward and brought her to his embrace. He distressfully said, “Yanyan, don’t hold back. If you want to cry, cry. He loves you very much, it’s just you two…..just cry, after crying, you’ll forget about him.”
Forget him? Can she? Fang Yan shook her head and move out from his embrace, “No, I won’t forget him. I am alive because of him. If you want me to forget him, how am I supposed to live?” Her tone was calm with no emotions heard. However, two lines of tears fell down her face, showing how heartbroken she is. Fang Rui just stared at her, not knowing what to say.
After wiping dry her tears, she revealed a smile, “I’m hungry. Let’s go eat. We can’t keep the others waiting.” She happily took Fang Rui’s hand and urge him to move faster.
She promised Zheng Weiqian that she would properly eat her meals, take her medicine and work hard to live a good life for him. This, she remembers.
