The night is cool. Neon lights shined brightly on both sides of the road. Most of the pedestrians on the road are people taking their dogs out for a walk. Jian Chi’s hold on Lu Wei Xi’s hand was never released as they made their way through the crowd.
Lu Wei Xi sneakily glanced up at the man standing next to her. There are faint traces of black and blue under his eyes. It seems that he is very tired. Lu Wei Xi’s heart ached.
“Jian Chi, you coming back this time–––”
She hadn’t finished speaking when she was interrupted by the other party, “The project is finished.”
"Ah...so, what you mean is?"
Jian Chi paused. His long eyelashes fanned out on his face as he turned to look down at her, “So, in the future, I will be here. I won’t be going anywhere.”
Lu Wei Xi was stunned for a second that she didn’t understand what he was saying at first. She looked up at him. The first thought that came to mind was, happiness came so unexpectedly QAQ
“Wei Xi, I promised I will take care of you, put you before anything else and that you will never shed a tear and run off to complain to someone else.” He looked at her. Under the moonlight, a look of gentleness shone in his indifferent eyes. “So tell me, what is bothering you?”
In the cool night, his voice was light water, soothing and warm.
Besides dubbing, she had never heard him use a gentle tone to talk to anyone.
Lu Wei Xi suddenly felt that the man standing in front of her really does like her. Maybe….more than she had imagined.
She silently looks up at him for a long time, finally having the courage to say what has been buried deep in her heart, “It’s because…..I feel that what has been happening lately feels very surreal. I’m worried that when I wake up the next day, it’s all a dream. You don’t like me at all and we are not together.”
Jian Chi studied her nervous and overwhelmed face. Suddenly, his lips slowly lifted up ever so slightly as beautiful as fleeting electricity.
“That’s what you’re worried about?” He crooked his head as he looks at her, his eyes shining brightly like the stars in the sky. “Then you can be rest assured now.”
His cool voice is very low, like the start of early spring when the ice and snow begin to melt. Lu Wei Xi, who had never heard him spoke with such assurance before, blushed.
Worried that he would notice her blushing, she lightly coughed and pretended to pull her hair behind her ear as she looked away.
Jian Chi took her hand and walked under the sunlight. They haven’t walked long until they reached the Wanda Cinema, the biggest one in City T.
“Do you want to watch a movie?” He asked her, indifferent to the matter.
“Are you asking me out on a date?”
“Of course.”
“.....But why does it not seem sincere?”
Jian Chi frowned, “Then in what way would I be sincere?”
Lu Wei Xi was at a loss for words. Afraid that he might be serious, she waved her hand offhandedly, “I was only teasing you. Let’s go see if we can still buy tickets.”
Because today is Friday, there are a lot of people in the cinema. Most of them are couples sweetly holding hands on a date. Lu Wei Xi stood on her tiptoes and looked at the movie schedule on the board. Accepting the fact that most of the popular movies have been sold out, they could only follow the suggestion of the worker and choose a relatively unpopular historical movie.
After they bought the tickets, the movie was already ten minutes in. Afraid that they would disrupt the other audience members watching the movie, Lu Wei Xi held Jian Chi’s hand and lightly walked into the room.
Because she doesn’t have high expectations for the film and doesn’t want to be seen, Lu Wei Xi thought about it and instead of moving forward, she pulled Jian Chi’s hand and sat in the third row in the back.
Jian Chi stayed quiet the entire time and fully cooperated with her. Right after she sat down, in a timely manner, Jian Chi considerately placed the bucket of freshly popped popcorn he had just bought into her arms.
The movie is as bad as she had imagined. At first glance, she can that it is a low-budget and small-scale production. The plot is boring and the dialogue is superficial. Overall, it is a snooze-fest and a real waste of money.
However….because Jian Chi is sitting next to her, Lu Wei Xi felt that she should persist on watching.
She absent-mindedly looks at the big screen while eating the popcorn in her arm. She felt that she has never been as relaxed as she is now.
Maybe it’s because she had been too worried that it took a toll on her the past few days, she fell asleep on Jian Chi’s shoulder.
When she woke up, the movie already ended. The other audience members walked out. Lu Wei Xi rubbed her eyes and straightened up. Next to her, Jian Chi is sitting up straight playing on his phone. She yawned, still not fully awake, “Jian Chi, how long was I sleeping?”
He put away his phone and replied, “Forty-one minutes and eight seconds.”
Embarrassed, Lu Wei Xi’s gaze involuntarily fell on Jian Chi’s shoulder, “Uh….is your shoulder sore?”
“It’s fine, let’s go.” He responded and stood up.
After waking up, Lu Wei Xi felt much better as she followed him out of the theater in a good mood.
At the entrance of the cinema, Jian Chi stopped and slightly turned his body to reach his hand toward her. Lu Wei Xi hesitated for a fraction of a second before she took his hand.
His well-defined hand that is holding hers look long and elegant. Holding her is like holding the world in his hand.
